Chen Zhu is a Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington, with adjunct appointments in Environmental Sciences and Environmental Health. He holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University and completed postdoctoral work at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
His research focuses on geochemical modeling, hydrogeochemistry, and water-rock interactions, addressing critical societal needs in mineral resources, clean energy, and water security. He combines experiments, fieldwork, and modeling to study reaction kinetics, geological carbon sequestration, and critical mineral dynamics.
Zhu has received numerous accolades, including fellowships from AAAS, the Mineralogical Society of America, and the Geological Society of America, as well as the Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer award. He also serves as (co)Executive Editor for Groundwater and Associate Editor for Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta.
His publications emphasize interdisciplinary methods like scanning ion conductance microscopy, geochemical sensor development, and biofuel cell applications, spanning environmental science, biophysics, and materials engineering.
