Hans Mommsen (1929–2015) was a prominent historian specializing in German social history, the Weimar Republic, and the Third Reich. He held academic positions at several institutions, including:
- Professor Emeritus (from 1996)
- Professor at Ruhr University Bochum (1968–1996)
- Assistant Professor at the University of Heidelberg (1963–1968) and Tübingen University (1960–1961)
His research focused on the structural and social dynamics of Nazi Germany, the collapse of the Weimar Republic, and the role of elites in authoritarian regimes. Mommsen was a member of the Academy of Europe (elected 1993) and contributed significantly to Holocaust studies and German historiography.
