Hans Martin Erhardt

Hans Martin Erhardt was a Professor and Head of the Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), serving as Dean of the Department of Architecture from 1984–1986. He held academic positions, scholarships, and leadership roles in art education and practice. Born in Emmendingen (Breisgau) in 1935, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Karlsruhe under Wilhelm Schnarrenberger and HAP Grieshaber, with a study visit to Paris in 1959 and encounters with figures like Samuel Beckett. His career included lectureships, exhibitions internationally, and contributions to stage design and public art installations. Notable awards include the Hans Thoma Prize and Baden-Württemberg State Prize. He retired in 2001 and passed away in 2015.
