Hans-Christoph Friederich

Prof. Hans-Christoph Friederich holds multiple leadership roles at Heidelberg University Hospital, including Medical Director of the Department of General Internal Medicine and Psychosomatics, Deputy Managing Medical Director of the Center for Psychosocial Medicine, and Management role at the Heidelberg Institute for Psychotherapy (HIP). He is also Dean of Heidelberg University's Medical Faculty since October 2023. His academic career includes professorships at Heidelberg University (since 2018) and Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf (2016–2018).

His research focuses on psychotherapy for eating disorders, experimental psychosomatic illness research, and functional diagnostics of the autonomic nervous system. Notable achievements include a habilitation thesis on the neuroscientific investigation of eating disorder psychopathology and leadership of an eating disorder research group at Heidelberg University Hospital.

He has received prestigious awards including the Hans-Roemer-Preis and Hilde Bruch Forschungspreis. His professional affiliations include board memberships in the German Society for Eating Disorders (DGESS) and the Association of Psychosomatic Hospitals (VKPD). He oversees third-party funded projects from DFG, BMBF, German Cancer Aid, and private foundations.
