Hannah Wishart is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Sunderland, serving as Programme Leader for the LLB (Hons) Law programme. Her research focuses on youth justice, criminal law, and neurolaw, particularly applying neuroscience to reform legal practices for developmentally immature children. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (2023), an LLM, LLB, and FHEA recognition. Her work challenges legal doctrines like doli incapax and explores neuroscientific insights in homicide cases involving minors. She has secured grants from the British Academy/Leverhulme, SLSA, and UKRI Policy Fund, including a 2024 grant on police charging decisions for young offenders.
Dr. Wishart teaches modules such as Criminal Law, Youth and Crime, and Advanced Legal Skills. She advises students on legal research and dissertation projects. Active in professional committees, she is a Research Associate at the Standing Committee for Youth Justice and a Committee Member of the International Neuroethics Society. Her research aims to bridge legal systems with developmental science to ensure equitable treatment of young offenders.
