Dr Hannah Scott Deuchar is a Lecturer in Comparative Literature at Queen Mary University of London's School of Languages, Linguistics and Film. Her work focuses on modern Middle Eastern literature, translation studies, and the intersections of law, technology, and colonial history. She holds a PhD from New York University (2021) and has been affiliated with institutions like the Social Science Research Council and EUME Berlin (pending 2025/6 Humboldt Fellowship).
Her research includes projects on translational justice in colonial legal systems and the global history of the Arabic typewriter. She has published in journals such as Comparative Literature and International Journal of Middle East Studies, and her co-edited volume Modern Arab Thought: A Reader is forthcoming with Cambridge University Press. Awards include the A. Owen Aldridge Prize (2020).
Teaching responsibilities include the MA in Translation and Adaptation Studies, and she supervises postgraduate research on Arabic literature and critical theory.
