Hannah Marriott is a Lecturer in Marketing and Strategy at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University, where she joined in 2023. Previously, she served as a Senior Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University (2020-2023) and as a Lecturer at the University of Winchester (2018-2020).
Her educational background includes a PhD in Business Management (Digital Marketing) and an MSc in Business Management (Marketing) from Swansea University, a PGCert in Higher Education from the University of Winchester, and an LLB in Law from Swansea University. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
Dr. Marriott's research focuses on understanding consumer psychology in digital contexts, with particular expertise in artificial intelligence, digital assistants, voice assistants, chatbots, and mobile applications. Her work examines how consumers interact with emerging technologies, exploring both the psychological drivers of technology adoption and the potential negative consequences of digital engagement. She investigates how anthropomorphism in digital assistants affects user experience, how mobile applications influence consumer behavior, and the psychological impacts of AI friendship apps on user well-being.
Her publication record demonstrates a consistent research trajectory examining the intersection of marketing, technology, and consumer psychology. Recent work shows increasing focus on the psychological impacts of AI technologies, with several 2023-2025 publications examining AI friendship apps, augmented reality digital assistants, and the mental health implications of digital technology use. Dr. Marriott leads and co-teaches Digital Marketing for both undergraduate and postgraduate students at Cardiff Business School. Prospective PhD candidates are encouraged to submit research proposals outlining their topic and methodology.
