Hannah Malone

Dr. Hannah Malone is an Assistant Professor in the History of Modern Architecture at Trinity College Dublin, affiliated with the Department of History of Art and Architecture within the School of Histories and Humanities. Her research examines architecture and urban spaces as political tools, with a focus on Fascist Italy and the interplay between political forces and memorialization. She holds a Ph.D. in architectural history and has authored three major books, including Architecture, Death and Nationhood (2017) and a forthcoming study on Fascist architecture post-WWII.

Her research interests center on how political regimes shape built environments, particularly through cemeteries, ossuaries, and monuments. Notable projects include analyzing Mussolini’s reburial policies and the transformation of Fascist architecture in post-war Italy. She co-edited a special issue on 'Difficult Heritage' in Modern Italy and received the Christopher Seaton-Watson Prize for her 2019 article on Fascist ossuaries.

Teaching specialties include modern architecture history, political architecture, and urban design from the 19th century to present. She actively contributes to transnational studies on architectural legacies of authoritarian regimes.
