Joshua Arthurs

Joshua Arthurs is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), jointly appointed in the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies. He specializes in the history of fascism, cultural memory, and public history, with a focus on modern Italy and Europe. His research explores the politics of memory, monuments, museums, and the legacies of fascism and empire. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and has held fellowships including the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Rome Prize.

Research Interests:
His work examines fascism’s cultural and political legacies, including the afterlife of fascist monuments, historical memory controversies, and the intersection of race, empire, and classical antiquity. Current projects include Forty-Five Days: Emotion, Experience, and Memory after Mussolini, analyzing post-regime violence and iconoclasm in Italy.
