Hanna Wass is an Associate Professor in Political Science and Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki. She serves as Acting Professor and is responsible for societal interaction, equality and sustainability at the faculty level. Her academic affiliations include the Helsinki Inequality Initiative (INEQ) and she serves as Supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences and the Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Change.
Wass is an internationally recognized expert in democracy, representation, health and political behavior. Her research focuses on electoral participation, welfare state policies, inequality, and voting behavior. She has led significant projects including the work package in the project 'Tackling the Biases and Bubbles in Participation (BIBU)', funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland, and serves as principal co-investigator in the project 'Facilitating Electoral Participation from Abroad (FACE)', funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation. She is also one of three principal investigators of the Finnish National Election Study 2019 and co-convenor of the ECPR standing group Public Opinion and Voting Behavior.
Her recent scholarly output shows a strong focus on contemporary political challenges, with publications examining democratic resilience, welfare state sustainability, electoral behavior in polarized environments, and security policy in the context of Finland's NATO membership. Her work bridges academic research and public discourse, with numerous contributions to major Finnish media outlets.

As Vice-Dean, Wass oversees societal engagement initiatives while maintaining an active research profile. Her work on the Finnish National Election Study provides foundational data for understanding political behavior in Finland, while her international collaborations extend her research impact across European political contexts.
