Hanna Bojar

Hanna Bojar is a Professor at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences (IFiS PAN), where she has been affiliated since 1987. She currently works in the Department of Theoretical Sociology and is part of the Sociology and Cultural Anthropology Research Group (since 2010). Her academic journey includes habilitation in sociology from IFiS PAN in 2015.

Her research focuses on community studies, particularly border local communities, social change, relations between tradition and innovation, various forms of community, and family transformations within democratization processes, multiculturalism, social mobility, and contemporary civilizational threats. She specializes in qualitative sociological research methodology.

Her recent publications reveal a consistent focus on border regions, Europeanization processes, immigrant experiences, and family dynamics in changing social contexts. Her work spans Eastern, Southern, and Western borderlands of Poland with particular attention to Polish-Ukrainian, Polish-Russian, and Polish-German contexts.

Professor Bojar has led numerous research projects including studies on border communities, Europeanization processes, family in public space, and Polish migration to Germany. Her work extends beyond academia through expert roles at CASE Research Agency, State Institute of International Affairs, Batorego Foundation, Pro Publico Bono Foundation, and Institute of Public Affairs.
