Hank Greely serves as the Deane F. and Kate Edelman Johnson Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and holds a courtesy appointment as Professor of Genetics in the Stanford School of Medicine. He directs the Center for Law and the Biosciences, chairs the Steering Committee of the Center for Biomedical Ethics, and leads the Stanford Interdisciplinary Group on Neuroscience and Society, driving interdisciplinary collaboration across legal, ethical, and scientific domains.
His research critically examines the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of breakthrough biomedical technologies, with concentrated expertise in neuroscience, genetics, and stem cell research. Professor Greely analyzes how evolving biotechnologies intersect with legal frameworks and societal values, positioning him as a pivotal scholar in bioethics and science policy where law navigates rapid scientific innovation.
Through leadership in the Center for Law and the Biosciences and the Stanford Interdisciplinary Group on Neuroscience and Society, he fosters cross-departmental teams uniting legal scholars, geneticists, neuroscientists, and ethicists to address governance challenges in emerging biotechnologies, emphasizing proactive policy development for societal impact.
