استاد · Structure-function relationships of biomedically important proteins
Seoul National Universityمعرفی
Han Byeong-woo is a full-time Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University (SNU), where he has been since March 2020. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor (2013–2020) and Assistant Professor (2009–2013) at the same institution. His research focuses on structural biology, particularly the structure-function relationships of biomedically relevant proteins, CAR-T/NK cell therapy targets, and the N-degron pathway in protein degradation.
- Education
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2001–2006)
- M.S. in Biochemistry, Seoul National University (1999–2001)
- B.S. in Chemistry Education, Seoul National University (1992–1999)
Research Interests: Professor Han’s lab explores structural mechanisms in biomedical contexts, including:
- Regulation of toxin-antitoxin systems in pathogenic bacteria (2024)
- Substrate recognition in the N-degron pathway (2024)
- Apoptotic regulation by novel Bcl-2 family members (2022)
- Glycosylation mechanisms of bacterial adhesins (2021)
- PPARγ modulation by kinase inhibitors (2020)
Publications Trends: His structural biology work spans protein degradation pathways (N-degron), cancer signaling (PPARγ mutations), immune therapy targets (CAR-T/NK), and infectious disease mechanisms (Legionella, Staphylococcus). Techniques include X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, and functional assays.
Students & Roles: He has mentored 10 Ph.D. and 12 Master’s students. Current administrative roles include Executive Director of SNU’s Ho-Am Faculty House (2022–2024) and Vice Dean of Student Affairs (2021–2022).
