Hamed Arfania is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Idaho's Department of Soil and Water Systems within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. His work focuses on phosphorus cycling in terrestrial and aquatic environments, soil health, and sustainable agricultural practices such as intercropping and cover crops. He holds a Ph.D. from Urmia University (2018), an M.S. from Bu-Ali Sina University (2008), and a B.S. from Urmia University (2006).

His research interests include phosphorus dynamics in tile drainage systems, nitrogen and phosphorus stock variations across soil types and management practices, and community-driven soil nutrient management. He has contributed to fertilizer package development for cereals and cucurbits. Recent work explores phosphorus legacy dynamics in Lake Urmia sediments and intercropping strategies to enhance phosphorus uptake in barley-pulse systems.
Key publication themes include sediment-metal interactions, isotopic tracing of phosphorus in tile drainage, GIS-based land suitability assessment, and drought stress impacts on millet varieties. His research bridges environmental chemistry, agricultural engineering, and ecological systems to address sustainability challenges in soil and water systems.
Arfania collaborates with labs such as the Pedology Laboratory and the Soil and Land Evaluation Program, focusing on practical solutions for farmers and environmental stewardship.
