Prof. Dr. Halit Targan ÜNAL is a faculty member at the Department of Business Administration in Doğuş University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. He currently serves as the Director of the Carbon Footprint and Sustainability Research and Application Center and represents the university in inter-university councils. Previously, he held significant roles at İstanbul University (1989–2009) including Senate membership, directorships of social sciences institutes, and department chairs, followed by roles at Okan University (2009–2019) as Senate member and Banking and Finance Department Chair.
Education: BSc in Engineering from İstanbul Devlet Mühendislik ve Mimarlık Akademisi (1978), MSc (1981) and PhD (1986) in Industrial Engineering from İstanbul Technical University. Academic promotions include Associate Professor (1989) and Professor (1995) in Economics at İstanbul University.
Research focuses on finance, banking systems, capital markets, and economic policy with over 30 years of contributions. His work spans banking sector analysis, financial crisis management, regulatory frameworks like Basel II, and pandemic impacts on financial institutions. Key publications include studies on early warning models for corporate failure, banking sector value creation, and post-pandemic banking strategies.
Supervised 250 master's and 91 doctoral theses. Active in administrative roles such as current Directorships at Doğuş and former leadership in academic institutes. Engaged with professional organizations in both public and private sectors, contributing to committees and advisory boards related to banking and corporate governance.
