Hal Salzman

Hal Salzman is a Professor of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University's Edward J. Bloustein School and Senior Faculty Fellow at the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development. He specializes in science/engineering labor markets, globalization of innovation, and Arctic community sustainability. His research is funded by NSF and Sloan Foundation.

Research Interests: Explores STEM workforce policies, technological change impacts, and socio-economic dynamics in Arctic regions. Recent work addresses skill requirements in global tech sectors and interdisciplinary STEM education strategies.

Key Projects: Leads NSF-funded studies on engineering education careers and Arctic human capital development. Co-develops sustainability-focused STEM curricula for high schools through the Center for Discrete Mathematics.

Awards & Recognition: Testified before U.S. Congress on workforce policy. Cited in Nature, New York Times, and PBS Newshour for groundbreaking analysis of STEM labor markets.
