Haiyan Qu

Haiyan Qu, Ph.D., is a tenured Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), School of Health Professions. She holds multiple academic appointments, including roles in Nursing, Public Health, and Medicine schools. Her research focuses on addressing health disparities, promoting equity in healthcare, and applying mixed methods to patient-centered outcomes. Dr. Qu teaches quantitative research methods in Health Administration and Informatics programs, emphasizing mixed methods design.

Dr. Qu earned her Ph.D. in Health Services Administration from UAB (2007), an M.S. in Health Services Administration from China's Logistic Academy (1992), and a B.S. in Nursing from Bethune Medical College (1985). She completed postdoctoral training in Health Disparities at UAB (2012-2014) and a Graduate Certificate in Mixed Methods Research (2019-2020).

Her research interests include healthcare quality improvement, telehealth implementation, and interventions targeting vulnerable populations. Notable projects include developing eHealth prehabilitation programs for liver transplant candidates and studying barriers to living organ donation. Dr. Qu serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Risk Management and Healthcare Policy and reviews grants for the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

Key awards include the 2021 Journal for Healthcare Quality Impact Award and UAB's Innovative Teaching Certificate (2016).
