Prof. Dr. Haidee Kotze is a Professor of Translation, Intercultural Communication, and Education at Utrecht University's Department of Languages, Literature, and Communication. She holds an honorary professorship at the North-West University in South Africa. Her research focuses on language variation and change in contact settings, translation studies, and the intersection of linguistics with digital humanities. She serves as editor-in-chief of Target: International Journal of Translation Studies and contributes to the Taalportaal Afrikaans grammar project. Her work explores translated language, World Englishes, and the role of language mediators in parliamentary discourse.
Key research themes include sociolinguistic dynamics, corpus linguistics, and eye-tracking studies. She co-edits the Translation, Interpreting and Transfer book series and is a member of the Centre for Translation Studies (CETRA) and the Thematic Network on Empirical and Experimental Research in Translation (TREC). Kotze's 2013 EST Young Scholar Award recognizes her groundbreaking monograph on postcolonial translation in South African children's literature.
