Haibo Xie is a Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong's School of Mechanical, Materials, Mechatronic and Biomedical Engineering. He holds a PhD from the same institution and has been affiliated with the university since 2019. His research focuses on advanced manufacturing processes, including metal forming, tribology, and numerical modeling. He specializes in microforming, friction and wear analysis, and the application of artificial intelligence in metal manufacturing. Dr. Xie has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students, contributing to projects on composite materials, micro-deep drawing, and material characterization.
His work spans interdisciplinary topics such as the optimization of rolling processes, the development of bimetal composites, and the investigation of material behavior under extreme conditions. He has contributed to over 135 research outputs and secured funding for projects related to metal forming technologies and material performance in harsh environments. Notable collaborations include partnerships with Baosteel-Australia and China Coal Technology & Engineering Group Corp.
Dr. Xie’s research has been published in high-impact journals like *Tribology International*, *Materials Science and Engineering A*, and *Journal of Manufacturing Processes*. His expertise is further highlighted by his contributions to conferences such as the International Conference on Precision Machinery and the Asia-Pacific Symposium on Engineering Plasticity.
