Professor Haftor Medboe is a faculty member at the School of Arts and Creative Industries, Edinburgh Napier University. He serves as a Professor of Jazz and Improvised Music and founded the Scottish Jazz Archive. He also holds a position on the Board of Directors of the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival.

Research interests focus on jazz, cultural identity, creative communities, and environmental impacts of music production. Recent projects include Green in Blue (2023) examining ecological consequences in jazz, and The Sound Beneath Our Feet (2022) blending seismic data with sound art.
His academic output spans oral history archiving, neoliberal influences on jazz education, and digital transformation in music dissemination. Publications appear in Jazz Research Journal and Routledge companions.
Recognition includes RSA Fellowship and Scottish Cultural Enterprise Consultant role. Supervisions available for postgraduate jazz research.
