Zack Moir

Zack Moir is a Professor of Learning and Teaching in Music at Edinburgh Napier University, where he serves as Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His work bridges music education, composition, and technology, with a focus on equity and innovation.

Research Interests:

• Popular music education and social justice
• Composition/improvisation pedagogies
• Music technology and networked collaborations
• Impact of cochlear implants on musical experience

Notable Projects include collaborations with the Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland (2021-2023) using data sonification and NHS initiatives around cochlear implants. His publications explore curriculum reform, neoliberal critiques, and creative practices.

Scientific Awards:

Contributions include editing The Bloomsbury Handbook of Popular Music Education (2019) and The Routledge Research Companion to Popular Music Education (2017). He actively composes for saxophone/tape, cello, and sound art installations.
