Elsa Bouet is a researcher at Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Arts and Creative Industries. She earned her PhD in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh (2013) and focuses on post-1945 dystopian fiction, science fiction, New Weird, Afrofuturism, and ecocriticism, with an emphasis on decolonization and sustainability in speculative narratives.

Her research explores the intersections of speculative fiction, literary theory, and environmental justice, contributing to global discussions on decolonizing neoliberalism and space exploration. She is part of the Social Dimensions of Outer Space network and works on a book chapter titled Global Gothic Technologies (Edinburgh University Press). Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action and biodiversity conservation.
She supervises PhD student Victoria Elliott (Scottish Gothic: A scientist’s companion, Edinburgh Napier University, 2021–present) and presented at the 2025 CAMC research talks with the paper Poetics of Tar: Monsters, Extraction and Sustainability in Death Stranding. She is affiliated with the Centre for Literature and Writing and the Centre for Arts, Media and Culture, focusing on culture, communities, and environmental themes.
