Hadas Steiner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University at Buffalo (State University of New York at Buffalo), part of the School of Architecture and Planning. She holds a PhD in the History, Theory, and Criticism of Architecture from MIT, an MA in Art History from UC Berkeley, and a BA in Architecture from Columbia University.
Her research focuses on the intersection of technological, scientific, and cultural dimensions of architectural fabrication post-1945. Her current manuscript examines the evolution of 'habitat' and 'ecology' in architectural discourse, tracing their origins from Le Corbusier’s 1949 'Charter of Habitat' through the works of Smithson, Price, and McHale. She has authored Beyond Archigram: The Technology of Circulation (Routledge), and her work appears in OCTOBER, Grey Room, Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, and others.
Her ongoing projects include studies on Reyner Banham’s photographic documentation in Buffalo, Cedric Price’s techno-zoological architecture, and architecture under extreme conditions. Her research has been supported by grants from the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Graham Foundation, Getty Research Institute, Zoological Society of London, and institutional awards from SUNY and MIT.
