Habib Iddrisu is an Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology and Dance at the University of Oregon's School of Music and Dance. He directs the Dema Dance Ensemble and holds affiliations with African Studies, Black Studies, Dance, Folklore Program, IRES, and Music departments. A traditionally trained Dagbamba/Dagomba court dancer, musician, and historian from Northern Ghana, Iddrisu combines performance and scholarship to explore intersections of tradition, globalization, and cultural adaptation.

Research interests span West African music and dance practices, cultural studies, post-colonial independence history, political economy, oral history, African diaspora studies, and new internationalism. His work analyzes how indigenous performance traditions evolve when transitioning from village contexts to global stages, challenging scholarly and performative discourses.

Iddrisu’s teaching career includes appointments at Lake Erie College, Cleveland State University, Pacific University, Reed College, Portland State University, and SUNY Brockport. His choreography has reached prestigious venues like the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where his South African gumboot dance interpretation was performed by the National American College Dance Festival.
