H de Jong

H de Jong is a Full Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Law's Legal Theory and Legal History department. He is also a Full Professor at the Kooijmans Institute and within the Law, Markets and Behavior research program.

• Main Research: Byzantine Law, focusing on mandatum (mandate) and societas (partnership)
• Secondary Research: Legal certainty in finance/business law and Contract Law & Obligations

His work intersects with the Ius Commune research school and explores topics like Frisian legal traditions, network analysis applications in legal history, and reception of Roman law. He was awarded the 2014 Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for work at Goethe University and the Max-Planck-Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte.
