Gül Kale is an Assistant Professor of Architectural History and Theory at Carleton University's Department of Art & Architectural History. Trained as an architect and architectural historian, she holds a Ph.D. and M.Arch II from McGill University and dual B.Arch/M.Arch degrees from Istanbul Technical University. Her research focuses on cross-cultural and global histories of architecture in the Mediterranean and Middle East, particularly during the early modern Ottoman period.

Her interdisciplinary work examines architecture’s relationship to sciences, ethical/political discourses, and knowledge production mechanisms. Current projects include the first critical analysis of an early modern Ottoman architectural treatise. She has been supported by prestigious fellowships including the Getty/ACLS, University of Bonn’s Annmarie-Schimmel Kolleg, and Berlin’s Forum Transregionale Studien.

Kale has conducted research as a visiting scholar at institutions like Kunsthistorisches Institute in Florenz and Freie Universität Berlin. She is affiliated with the McGill-based research project "Early Modern Conversions" and contributes to architectural historiography through her publications on topics ranging from geometry in Ottoman architecture to intersections between architecture and music.
