Gökberk Alagöz is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute's Department of Language and Genetics. His work focuses on human brain evolution, particularly cortical anatomy and language evolution. He holds a Bachelor's in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Bilkent University (Turkey) and a Master's in Evolution, Ecology, and Systematics from Ludwig Maximilians University (Germany). His Master's research involved a Cambridge-Babraham collaboration studying gene duplication in apes and Old World Monkeys.
His current PhD project investigates brain globularity and language evolution, collaborating with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and the ENIGMA consortium’s Evolution Working Group. Research interests include neuroimaging genomics, genetic architecture of brain structure, and evolutionary implications of genetic variants. Recent work explores dyslexia genetics and archaic hominin alleles' phenotypic impacts.
Publications span neuroimaging genomics, language evolution, and developmental genetics. Collaborations emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to unravel evolutionary mechanisms underlying human cognitive traits.
