Gwen Bradford is an Associate Professor and Chancellor Jackman Professor in Philosophy at the University of Toronto. She currently holds the 2024-25 Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellowship at Princeton University's University Center for Human Values (UCHV). Her research focuses on value theory, exploring topics such as achievement, uniqueness, irreplaceability, and the ethical dimensions of cultural artifacts and human separateness.
Her academic work has been published in leading journals including Noûs, The Journal of Philosophy, and Philosophical Quarterly. Her 2015 book Achievement (Oxford University Press), which examines the nature and value of achievement, earned the APA Book Prize. Currently, she is developing a new project titled Uniqueness, investigating the philosophical significance of uniqueness in art, humanity, and personhood.
Awarded the APA's distinguished book prize, Bradford's scholarship bridges metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics. Her UCHV fellowship supports interdisciplinary engagement with normative questions in law, culture, and human values.
