Professor Guy Brown is a faculty member at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry and Cambridge Neuroscience. His research focuses on neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and the role of microglial phagocytosis in these processes.
Using mouse models and cell culture systems, his lab investigates how inflamed microglia damage or protect neurons, with a specific emphasis on phagocytosis of live neurons and synapses. Key findings include the role of P2Y6 receptor signaling in synaptic loss and the impact of TREM2 variants on amyloid-beta aggregation.
Recent publications highlight trends in microglial activation, phagocytosis regulation, and therapeutic targeting of receptors like P2Y6. His work spans disciplines including neuroscience, immunology, and biochemistry, with subfields such as synaptic pruning, inflammatory signaling, and neurodegenerative therapies.
He leads the Laboratory of Microglial Phagocytosis, Neuroinflammation & Neurodegeneration and collaborates on studies involving Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease models. Techniques employed include fluorescence microscopy, enzyme assays, and immunohistochemistry.
