Dr. Beth Stevens is Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and researcher at Boston Children's F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center. Her pioneering work established roles for microglia and complement-mediated synaptic pruning in neural circuit development. Current research examines how neuron-glia interactions contribute to neurodegenerative diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders, and brain aging through aberrant synaptic elimination.
Studies investigate complement cascade activation (C1q/C3), phosphatidylserine signaling, and TREM2-dependent phagocytosis. Her lab employs single-cell genomics, in vivo imaging, and human iPSC models to dissect microglial states in health/disease. Honors include a MacArthur Fellowship (2015) for revealing immune mechanisms in brain development.
