Gustavo Dias is a Lecturer in Penal Process at UNINASSAU - Centro Universitário Maurício de Nassau (Recife, Brazil) and an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute for Crime & Justice Policy Research (ICPR). He joined ICPR in September 2022 to contribute to the project Unlocking potential: towards effective, sustainable and ethical provision of employment opportunities for prisoners and prison-leavers. Concurrently, he has served as a Public Prosecutor (Promotor de Justiça) in Brazil since 2018.
He holds a Master's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Edinburgh, where his research examined the introduction of mobile phones in Scottish prisons. His professional background includes leadership roles in correctional systems, notably as head of the disciplinary department (Corregedor-Geral) at the Penitentiary System of the State of Pará (Brazil) from 2012–2018. During this period, he implemented human rights-oriented reforms in prison management.
