Gus Hosein is the Executive Director at Privacy International, a global organization focused on technology and data rights. He previously held academic roles as a Visiting Senior Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he co-authored the book *Global Challenges for Identity Policy* (Palgrave Macmillan), and as a Visiting Scholar at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), advising their Technology and Liberty Project. He was appointed to the Oxford Internet Institute's (OII) Advisory Board in October 2023.

- PhD from the University of London on technology regulation
His research and advocacy center on technology and data exploitation by corporations and governments, including work on communications surveillance, border registration and tracking of migrants, travel profiling, and identity systems. Gus emphasizes the importance of informed, resilient civil society organizations in protecting global human rights through collaborative networks and nonprofit governance.
At the LSE, he taught for over a decade and led research on identity systems. He has also advised international legal and policy initiatives and supported global partner organizations in advancing digital rights.
