Dr. Guojun HE is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at SKEMA Business School in France, with a career spanning academic roles in Canada and the UK. His research focuses on consumer culture theory, sociology, and material culture studies, particularly exploring market dynamics in contexts like Hong Kong's postcolonial identity and China's digital surveillance systems. He holds a PhD from HEC Montréal (2021), an MRes and MSc from the University of Bath (2013/2012), and has held adjunct roles at Bishop's University and teaching positions at HEC Montréal.
His research investigates how consumer goods mediate political narratives (e.g., Chairman Mao badges), gender equality discourses through food practices, and the socio-political implications of China's Social Credit System. He has contributed to major publications like Technological Forecasting and Social Change, and organized sessions at conferences such as the Association of Asian Studies. Awards include a 2019 Research Travel Grant from HEC Montréal.
Dr. HE actively reviews for top journals and book projects, including the Routledge Handbook of Digital Consumption. His work bridges cultural anthropology with marketing strategy, addressing contemporary issues like digital transformation during crises and ethical challenges in surveillance capitalism.
