Gunseli Tumer-Alkan

Gunseli Tumer-Alkan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a PhD in Finance from Tilburg University. Since 2008, she has been a guest researcher at the Deutsche Bundesbank, contributing to research programs on Financial Stability and Financial Intermediation. Her work focuses on banking industry dynamics, bank-firm relationships, lending behavior, and liquidity shock transmission. She teaches courses such as Financial Data Decision Analysis, Financial Management, and Thesis Supervision.

Research Interests: Her research explores how banks manage liquidity risks, interactions between banks and firms, and the impact of global financial shocks on domestic lending. Key themes include market discipline mechanisms and the role of interbank networks in stabilizing financial systems.

Projects & Grants: She leads the 'Stimuleringsbeurs: Research in Banking with Micro data' project (2024–2029), investigating banking practices using detailed microdata. Her editorial role as Associate Editor for the Journal of Multinational Financial Management highlights her academic contributions.
