Gunnel Cederlöf is a Professor of History at Linnaeus University's Department of Cultural Sciences and a member of the Linnaeus University Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies. She specializes in environmental, legal, and colonial history, with a focus on early modern and modern India and the British Empire. Her work bridges global and local histories, examining the interplay of nature, political power, and societal change.
She holds a PhD from Uppsala University and has held visiting positions at institutions including Oxford University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research includes projects like 'Exception and Emergency: British Imperial Governance in Asian Frontier Tracts' and 'Trans-Himalayan Flows, Governance and Spaces of Encounter.'
Key publications include Landscapes and the Law (2019) and Founding an Empire on India's North-Eastern Frontiers, 1790-1840 (2014). Awards and roles include membership in the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters and leadership in STINT (2013-2019). She teaches courses on postcolonial environments and supervises students at undergraduate and graduate levels.
