Gunnar Grün is a Professor of Building Physics at the University of Stuttgart's Institute for Acoustics and Building Physics (IABP). He concurrently serves as Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) since 2016 and leads the 'Energy Efficiency and Indoor Climate' department there since 2015. Previously, he held professorships in 'System Integration for Efficient Buildings' at Nuremberg Tech (2015–2019) and led the 'Indoor Climate' and 'Indoor Climate Systems' groups at Fraunhofer IBP. His research focuses on energy-efficient building systems, acoustics, and thermal comfort in aviation environments.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) from University of Stuttgart (2005–2008), funded by the German National Academic Foundation
- Civil Engineering studies at University of Stuttgart (1999–2005) with a semester at the University of Calgary, Canada (2003–2004)
Research emphasizes interdisciplinary solutions for sustainable buildings, including HVAC systems optimization, noise control, and occupant well-being. His work bridges academic and applied research through Fraunhofer's industry collaborations.
Awards: Recognized by the Studienstiftung for academic excellence during his doctoral research on aircraft cabin climate systems.
Leadership roles include managing interdisciplinary teams in energy efficiency and indoor climate innovation. Active in academic-industrial partnerships to advance building physics applications.
