Gunhild Nytrøen serves as a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of General Practice within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo. Her work bridges clinical practice and academic research through active contributions to the Norwegian Electronic Medical Handbook (NEL) and innovative pain management protocols.
Her research centers on musculoskeletal pain disorders and opioid stewardship in primary care settings. Key interests include temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), fibromyalgia, non-specific neck pain, and PCOS management, with significant focus on developing hospital-general practitioner collaboration frameworks to reduce post-injury opioid dependence. She employs both clinical revision methodologies and randomized controlled trial designs to address translational gaps in pain management.
Nytrøen's 15 most recent publications (2023-2024) reveal a cohesive research trajectory focused on pain coordination systems and opioid reduction strategies. The dominant theme across her work is the development and validation of the Pain and Coordination Plan (SOS-plan/PAC-plan), which targets transitional care challenges after orthopedic injuries. Her publications span clinical handbooks, RCT protocols, and trade journal interviews, demonstrating commitment to both academic rigor and practical healthcare implementation.
She actively participates in the General Practice Research Unit and leads the Musculoskeletal health and pain research group. Her current flagship project, the Pain And Coordination plan (PAC-plan), represents a multidisciplinary effort to transform post-injury pain management through structured hospital-GP collaboration protocols.
