Guillaume Yon

Guillaume Yon is a Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) in Berlin, where he investigates the historical interplay between economic expertise and energy policy. His work centers on engineer-economists' roles in shaping electricity pricing and investment planning within Électricité de France during post-WWII France through the 1970s.

He holds a PhD in sociology of science from the Centre de sociologie de l’innovation at École des mines de Paris (2016). His research examines how economic knowledge production intersects with politically contentious problem-solving and policy-making processes in technoscientific domains.

Yon actively contributes to academic discourse as the book reviews editor for the Journal of Energy History / Revue d’histoire de l’énergie and participates in the French CNRS’s interdisciplinary Climate-Energy research group. His scholarship bridges historical analysis with contemporary energy transition challenges, emphasizing the practical applications of economic calculations in state-managed infrastructure systems.
