Fanny Gribenski is a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, part of the Max Planck Society. She specializes in the history of science with interdisciplinary focus on musicology and acoustics, and serves as book review editor for the Revue de musicologie.
Her academic background includes musicology and history studies at École Normale Supérieure of Lyon, Paris Conservatory, and École des hautes études en sciences sociales. She earned her PhD in 2015 with a dissertation on nineteenth-century French church concert life, published as L’Église comme lieu de concert. Pratiques musicales et usages de l’espace (1830–1905) (Actes Sud, 2019).
Gribenski's research examines transnational intersections of sound, technology, and politics between 1834–1939. Her current book project Tuning the World investigates global negotiations of concert pitch standards, revealing connections between aesthetics, industrialization, and international relations through historical analysis of acoustics and musical practices.
She has received significant recognition through competitive fellowships:
- Fondation Thiers fellowship
- Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA
- Dibner fellowship at Huntington Library
Gribenski actively contributes to scholarly discourse through conference presentations at institutions including the American Musicological Society and MPIWG colloquia. Her editorial role at Revue de musicologie demonstrates ongoing engagement with academic communities despite no formal student advisement being documented.
