Guillaume Molle

Guillaume Molle is a Senior Lecturer in Pacific Archaeology and Head of the Archaeology program at the Australian National University's School of Archaeology & Anthropology. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of French Polynesia and an MA from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. His research focuses on Polynesian archaeology, particularly the Marquesas Islands, Tuamotu Atolls, and Gambier Islands, with expertise in human colonization of Oceania, island socio-ecosystems, and ceremonial architecture.

Deputy director of the Centre International de Recherches Archeologiques en Polynesie (CIRAP), Molle leads projects exploring ritual practices, warfare dynamics, and socio-political evolution in Pacific Island societies. His work integrates archaeological, ethnographic, and historical methodologies to analyze material culture and funerary practices. He coordinates international collaborations, including radiocarbon dating studies in the Gambier Islands.

His research outputs span 2011–2023, addressing topics like coral ritualism, Marquesan warfare, and settlement chronology. Supervising research students, he emphasizes ethnoarchaeological approaches to reconstruct past socio-ecological systems. Awards and grants include leadership of the ANU project on Polynesian religious systems (2019–2024).
