Professor Guido Herrmann holds the Chair in Robotics & Intelligent Control at the University of Manchester's Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His research develops robust and adaptive control methods applied to robotic systems, high-precision instrumentation, and automotive applications through multidisciplinary collaborations spanning neuro-psychology, physics, and mechanical engineering.
Research integrates theoretical advances in sliding mode control, parameter estimation, and networked systems with practical implementations in collaborative robots, atomic force microscopy, and intelligent vehicles. Professor Herrmann has led projects with industry partners including Jaguar Land Rover and Moltex Energy, and contributes to editorial boards for major mechatronics journals. Current work examines human-robot interaction safety and radiation-tolerant systems for nuclear decommissioning.
