Guido Band

Guido Band is an Associate Professor at Leiden University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, specializing in Cognitive Psychology. He obtained his PhD (1997) and Master's (1992) in Developmental Psychology and Psychophysiology from the University of Amsterdam, focusing on response inhibition. Since 2000, he has studied performance monitoring, cognitive control, and dual-task performance, with recent work on cognitive enhancement through training, video games, meditation, and neurofeedback.

Research Interests: Variability in cognitive performance across age groups and individuals, interventions for cognitive enhancement, and applications to surgical skills training. His work bridges experimental psychology with real-world medical education, emphasizing optimal training design for procedural motor skills.

Publications & Collaborations: Co-authored studies on laparoscopic skill acquisition (with Edward Spruit, Jaap Hamming, and others), focusing on factors like spacing, fatigue, and simulation-based training. His research appears in journals such as Psychological Research and Journal of Surgical Education.

Teaching & Mentorship: Supervises PhD candidates (e.g., Kerwin Olfers, Julian Steinke) and contributes to Leiden University's Psychology BSc/MSc programs. His work integrates cognitive psychology principles into surgical education frameworks.
