Guenter Reiss

Guenter Reiss is a Professor at Bielefeld University, where he has been since 1997. His academic career began at the University of Regensburg, earning a Diploma in Physics (1984) and a Ph.D. in Physics (1989). He conducted postdoctoral work at Regensburg and IBM T.J. Watson Research Center before leading the thin film section at IFW Dresden (1992-1997).

Research Focus: Specializing in spin electronics, his work explores novel materials and devices for memory and sensing systems, with a particular emphasis on interface effects in magnetic heterostructures. At Bielefeld, he has integrated magnetism with semiconductor physics and microelectronics in educational programs.

Leadership & Service: He has served on committees for the IEEE Magnetics Society and the German Research Foundation (DFG), co-organizing events like the German Physical Society (DPG) spring meeting.
