Guangwei Du, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Penn State Neuroscience Institute. His work centers on developing advanced MRI techniques and data analysis methods to study Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
- Education: PhD in Imaging and Nuclear Medicine (Capital Medical University, 2002-2005); MD (Shanxi Medical University, 1993-1998).
Dr. Du's research focuses on multivariate multimodal MRI markers for neurodegenerative diseases, utilizing innovations like multi-compartment MRI contrasts, quantitative susceptibility mapping, and machine learning. His studies explore the neurobiological basis of MRI signals and their correlation with neurodegeneration, particularly in Parkinson's disease.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in neurodegenerative imaging, with key themes including:
- Applications of MRI to assess Parkinson's disease progression (2025)
- Impact of environmental metal exposure on brain microstructure (2024)
- Comparative neuropathological imaging of motor-related brain regions (2024)
- Mechanisms of cognitive decline in Parkinson's patients (2023)
- Environmental risk factors affecting welders' neural integrity (2023)
His work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Education through biomedical research and imaging technology development.
