Dr. Vesna Sossi is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia and an Adjunct Professor in Medicine. She directs the PET/MRI imaging program at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, where she leads research on molecular and multimodal brain imaging.
Her research interests focus on algorithm and instrumentation development as well as multi-modal imaging analysis with particular emphasis on application in Parkinson's disease and neurodegeneration. Novel areas of her research include further exploitations of PET/MRI synergies to develop new markers for brain energetics.
Prof. Sossi's publications demonstrate strong focus on neurodegenerative disorders, with recent work exploring PET-based brain connectivity and advanced imaging techniques for Parkinson's disease.
Awards and Recognition:
- IEEE Fellow for contributions to quantitative brain PET imaging
- Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Career Senior Scholar Award
- Peter Wall Senior Early Scholar Award
She leads the UBC PET program and established a multi-modal hybrid PET/MRI imaging Suite at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health.
