Grzegorz Stopa

Univ.-Prof. Grzegorz Stopa is a renowned accordionist and educator at the Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna (since 2005, as a full professor since 2013). He also held positions at Detmold University of Music (2009–2018), Folkwang University of the Arts (2003), and Graz University of Music (2007–2009). He was awarded a Guest Professorship at Tianjin Conservatory of Music (China, 2018).

His education includes a Master's degree from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and postgraduate studies with DAAD funding at Folkwang University in Essen, followed by a concert examination at Detmold University of Music. His research focuses on accordion performance, pedagogy, and interdisciplinary collaborations with composers of contemporary music (e.g., K. Aho, Q. Chen, S. Gubaidulina).

Stopa's achievements include first prizes in major international competitions (Tokyo, Warsaw) and solo appearances at prestigious venues like Vienna Musikverein and Carnegie Hall. He founded the Formation Neues Akkordeon (FONA), a project exploring new interpretive possibilities of the concert accordion through performances with students and graduates.

His students have excelled globally, winning competitions (Arrasate, Klingenthal) and securing academic appointments at institutions like Warsaw and Zhejiang Conservatories. He frequently serves on juries for international competitions and teaches masterclasses worldwide.
