Grigorios Gerotziafas

Grigorios Gerotziafas is an Associate Professor (MCU-PH) at Sorbonne University, serving as Team Leader for the Cancer Biology and Therapeutics team at Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris. He is based at the Kourilsky Building (1st and 8th floors) at 184, rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, 75012 Paris, France.

Dr. Gerotziafas's research focuses on several key areas in cancer biology:

• Tumor cell plasticity, particularly epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and stem cell phenotypes
• Relationships between tumor invasion, chemoresistance, and immune cell recruitment
• Tumor vascular environment and the relationship between cancer and thrombosis
• Vascular mimicry and circulating tumor cells
• Role of the microenvironment, particularly adipose tissue in carcinogenesis
• Development of new anti-cancer drugs and drug combinations
• Identification of prognostic and predictive biomarkers

His fundamental research explores the mechanisms of tumor invasion and metastasis, with particular interest in CD36 protein, the Snail family, and angiogenic signaling pathways. One significant research axis concerns the role of alarmin family proteins, particularly HMGB1, in tumor cell response to anti-cancer agents and immune system reactivation.

Dr. Gerotziafas leads a research team that includes professors, lecturers, researchers, clinicians, post-doctoral fellows, engineers, technicians, and students. His team maintains a continuum between fundamental, preclinical, translational, and clinical research by fostering interactions between clinical and biological services of Saint-Antoine, Tenon, and Pitié-Salpêtrière hospitals.

His team has achieved notable scientific highlights, including publications in prestigious journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Clinical Cancer Research, patents, and an international phase III clinical trial concerning colorectal cancers treated with the bevacizumab-Erlotinib combination.

Dr. Gerotziafas and his team members have been invited to present their work at leading institutions including MIT, Stanford Medical School, University of Oxford, CHUV (Switzerland), and in Singapore. They have also been invited to give courses in various countries across South America, China, and throughout Europe.
