Gregory Weeks

Gregory Weeks is a Professor and Associate Dean of CHESS at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1999) and has been at UNCC since 2000. His research focuses on Latin American politics, U.S.-Latin American relations, immigration, and Chilean political dynamics. He serves as editor of The Latin Americanist.

His expertise includes democratization processes, civil-military relations, and regional diplomacy. Notable works include Embracing Autonomy: Latin American-U.S. Relations in the Twenty-First Century (2024) and Irresistible Forces: Latin American Immigration to the United States (2010). His recent research explores autonomy in U.S.-Latin American relations and the legacy of authoritarian regimes.

Publications span academic journals and textbooks, including Understanding Latin American Politics (open-access, 2023). He has collaborated with scholars like his father, John R. Weeks, and Silvia Borzutzky on migration and Chilean governance topics.
