Gregory Ventura is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geology at Saint Mary's University, holding the Tier II Canadian Research Chair in Organic Geochemistry. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Science and maintains an office at S423 Science Building (923 Robie Street). His research focuses on organic geochemistry, petroleum systems, and environmental geochemistry, with expertise in advanced analytical techniques like GC×GC and isotopic analysis.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Organic Geochemistry from the University of Illinois (2006), M.S. in Paleoecology & Geology from Indiana University (1999), and B.S. in Geology from Southern Methodist University (1992). Pre-academic experience includes roles as a Petroleum Geochemist at GNS Science Ltd. and field geology positions with Schlumberger and Exmin Co.
Research interests span petroleum source rock evaluation, hydrocarbon fingerprinting, and environmental impact assessments. Key contributions include studies on Deepwater Horizon oil spill dynamics, Archean biosphere signatures, and UCM composition in ancient sediments. He has published extensively in journals like Applied Geochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Honors include the NSERC Tier II Research Chair (2016). Teaching contributions include course development for 4826, 6690, and others. Ventura collaborates with institutions like GNS Science and has presented at major conferences including AGU and AAPG.
