Professor Gregory Nolan is a leading academic and researcher at the University of Tasmania's School of Architecture and Design, serving as Director of the Centre for Sustainable Architecture with Wood (CSAW). With a career spanning over three decades as both a registered architect and timber engineering expert, he bridges practical construction knowledge with advanced research in sustainable wood utilization.
His research focuses on:
- Optimizing plantation hardwood processing
- Advancing moisture content management in timber supply chains
- Developing engineered wood products for non-residential construction
- Addressing market barriers through technical innovation
Recent publications analyze screw performance in hardwoods, finger-joint mechanics, and drying protocol optimization. These works align with his dual research themes:
- Environment, Resources and Sustainability
- Creativity, Culture and Society
Key scientific recognition includes the 1995 'Plus You' Housing Design Competition award. His 70+ completed research projects have shaped Australian timber construction standards and sustainability practices.
